In addition to two dozen dancers, Ballet Des Moines has recruited a team of world-class leaders and professionals from across the country, many of whom have relocated to call Des Moines home. Every year, more than 500 dancers apply for roles at Ballet Des Moines, and auditions are regularly held across the country for open company roles and Trainee positions. 

With over 100 state-wide partners, BDM has been recognized for its authentic approach to collaboration, which focuses not just on opening doors, but establishing trust-based relationships with community leaders, educators, and communities. Through these partnerships, BDM is reaching nearly 15,000 community members a year, with programs that actively improve academic outcomes, spark career connections, drive economic activity, and improve feelings of belonging and regional pride. 

Ballet Des Moines has established itself as an industry leader in interdisciplinary learning, redefining the role of the arts in education by wielding creativity as a tool to improve academic outcomes, teach empathy, and build the confidence and curiosity in the next generation of leaders. BDM’s educational programming does not seek to teach ballet, but to integrate artistic concepts into classrooms and communities in ways that enrich understanding and relevance for all students, particularly those who may not otherwise have access to the performing or fine arts.
