Ballet Des Moines' annual state-wide summer STEM tour shares inspiring artistry alongside interactive science activities, creating opportunities for rural and underserved communities to explore the intersection of curiosity and creativity. 

With the help of a network of state-wide and local partners, the program engages Iowans of all ages around a specific theme, underscoring the power of meeting audiences where they are and with free, accessible, hands-on activities.  

Past themes have included the science of space (alongside the ballet Of Gravity And Light), Female voices in STEM and the Arts (alongside various dance works by female choreographers and featuring female characters), and the science of the night (alongside A Midsummer Night's Dream).  

Summer STEM tours also reflect and represent local initiatives and community needs, plugging into Pride Festival activities, supplementing summer programming at libraries, and providing opportunities for local young artists to engage with touring professionals.
