Nothing Holds Still will captivate audiences with the restless beauty of constant motion. A meditation on change, time, and the fleeting nature of stillness, this production will highlight a breadth of artistry, including the work of BDM's reinstated Artist in Residence for the 25/26 season.

  • DaYoung Jung, Rehearsal Director for Oklahoma City Ballet and award winning choreographer, will set her first work on the company to an original score by Philip Daniel.

  • Eric Trope will partner with the Belin Quartet for a new work with live music on stage. Trope’s ballet will include artwork from BDM Artist-in-Residence Olivia Valentine, a collaboration with the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation.

  • BDM’s Choreographic Institute winner Cameron Miller will develop a world premiere, sharing his work with audiences for the first time.

ABOUT THE BALLET DES MOINES CHOREOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE

Founded in 2023, The Ballet Des Moines Choreographic Institute is open to all Ballet Des Moines Company Dancers, providing professional artists an opportunity to experience different roles in the studio and develop their choreographic voice and style. At the culmination of the program, one participant from the Institute will be selected to stage their work in Ballet Des Moines’ Winter Contemporary production, Nothing Holds Still.

Last season’s emerging choreographer, Noah Klarck, made his choreographic debut with Orthodoxy in February 2025.

THE BDM ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM WELCOMES OLIVIA VALENTINE

In collaboration with the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation, this 9-month residency welcomes a mid-career Des Moines-area visual artist into the Ballet Des Moines studio to create new visual artwork inspired by movement and dance. With dedicated time onsite at Ballet Des Moines’ Lauridsen Campus for Arts & Education, the goal is for the resident artist to develop a deep understanding of ballet while also becoming a part of the BDM creative community.

At the conclusion of their time with Ballet Des Moines, the AiR will have produced a finished work, inspired by movement and dance. Their piece will be publicly presented in tandem with a new contemporary dance piece by the selected choreographer from the Ballet Des Moines Choreographic Institute.

Additional support is provided by the Iowa State University Department of Art and Visual Culture, whose faculty enrich Iowa's vibrant arts and cultural landscape—through both their own work and that of their students—and bring visual arts education to communities throughout the state.
