Manager of Artistic Operations
Schedule: Full Time
Primarily on-site work, based in Des Moines, IA
Salary range: $45,000 – $60,000
Position Summary
The Manager of Artistic Operations is a detail oriented individual who is equally skilled at juggling multiple timelines and schedules while building strong relationships in- and outside of the organization. He/She/They oversee the operations of BDM’s campus and work to ensure customer and partner satisfaction in all endeavors. The Manager of Artistic Operations plays a primary role in creating a welcoming, helpful, and professional atmosphere for BDM patrons, employees, presenters, partners, and visitors, both in-person and virtually. Core responsibilities include oversight of the campus calendar of events and programs and coordination with community partners. The position serves as the primary point of contact for theaters and venues, tour locations, attendees, visitors, partners, and outside vendors, supporting communications, scheduling, and troubleshooting.
Primary Roles
Serve as the point person for day-to-day office management and operations for visitors, staff, and volunteers.
Work with building management on topics such as security, emergency evacuations, and suite maintenance
Nurture relationships with venues and touring partners
Establish protocols, timelines, communications, and reconciliations related to ticket sales, including season tickets
Accountability for touring logistics, including site requirements, contracts, dancer and staff needs
Integrate with Marketing, Artistic, and Education departments to ensure consistent messaging, accurate communications, and seamless delivery of programming.
Build and and maintain systems that provide studio access for BDM partner programs
Internal coordination
Attend weekly staff meetings, pro-actively participating and collaborating with colleagues and giving updates/reports
Take a leadership role in facilitating new partnerships, procedures, and systems
Interact with all BDM staff on a regular basis to maintain up-to-date knowledge of BDM’s activities and programs to facilitate seamless support for operational success
Required Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s Degree or professional experience equivalent
Demonstrated proficiency with a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in effectively managing creating and sustaining operational systems
Strong computer skills, including Google Suite
Excellent writing, communication, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a high-performance culture
Impeccable judgment and ability to hold confidential matters in confidence
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to balance professionalism and warmth while maintaining a sense of humor
Comfortable working independently as part of a team

Work Environment
Travel as required; may occasionally travel to sites that are not wheelchair accessible. Mental: Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment, troubleshooting, problem solving, analysis, and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. May require walking primarily on a level surface for long periods throughout the day. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memos, letters, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. Must be able to speak and communicate clearly.
