Ballet Des Moines is pleased to present the 2017-18 season. Our sixth season includes: A Triple Bill, Oct. 20-22, 2017; The Nutcracker, Dec. 8-10, 2017; and Cinderella, March 31, 2018.

TRIPLE BILL: redefined

Des Moines: October 20-22

Ballet Des Moines is pleased to present Triple Bill: Redefined, October 20-22, 2017, at Hoyt Sherman Place.

Triple Bill: Redefined is Ballet Des Moines’ sixth annual fall production, featuring three short ballets in one spectacular evening of dance. Ballet Des Moines’ own Ballet Mistress, Lori Grooters, along with guest choreographers Ma Cong and Ryan Nye will each present ballets featuring the company’s own professional  and pre-professional dancers.

Ma Cong is the resident choreographer for the Tulsa Ballet and an in-demand worldwide choreographer who recently choreographed the revival of the Broadway production of M. Butterfly. Ryan Nye is an award-winning choreographer who most recently danced as a Principal dancer with Kansas City Ballet.

DES MOINES: Single tickets to Triple Bill can be purchased at the Hoyt Sherman Place box office or online through Ticketmaster beginning September 11, 2017.

AMES: The Ames performance of Triple Bill: Redefined will take place at C.Y. Stephens on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. Ballet Des Moines’ artistic director, Serkan Usta, will be joined by two guest choreographers, Ma Cong and Ryan Nye. Triple Bill: Redefined includes Usta’s world premier contemporary ballet.

In addition, the Iowa Youth Ballet directed by the Robert Thomas Dancenter of Ames, will perform a special ballet prepared exclusively for this exciting evening of dance!

Ballet Des Moines presents Pop-Up Ballet: An Evening of Dance

Please join us for a brief and inspirational evenings of dance performed by our professional artists and our BDM II pre-professional dancers.

These free and casual events are a great opportunity to learn about Ballet Des Moines and to see first-hand, the artistry and athleticism of this beautiful company of dancers that enriches the cultural landscape of our community.

Following the performances, please stay and join us for refreshments and for a chance to meet and speak with the dancers and learn more about their passion for ballet in Des Moines!  


THE NUTCRACKER, December 8-10

Ballet Des Moines presents its 16th annual production of The Nutcracker, December 8-10, 2017 at Hoyt Sherman Place.

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most famous ballets the world has ever known, and is the cornerstone of ballet companies around the world. Ballet Des Moines’ adaptation is choreographed by Artistic Director Serkan Usta and Ballet Mistress Lori Grooters.  You will be visually delighted by our resident professional company and more than 300 local student dancers.

Single tickets to one of the five performances to The Nutcracker can be purchased at the Hoyt Sherman Place box office or through Ticketmaster beginning Monday, October 16, 2017.

Cinderella, March 31

The much beloved fairy-tale will be brought to life through the magic of dance on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Des Moines Civic Center.  Live music will be performed by the Des Moines Community Orchestra. The production will feature Ballet Des Moines’ professional and pre-professional dancers, in addition to hundreds of local student dancers.

There will be two performances of Cinderella at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Single tickets to Cinderella can be purchased through the Des Moines Civic Center here at a later date to be determined.
