About Ballet Des Moines

Under the Artistic Direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines launched its first professional ballet company in 2012, offering additional training opportunities for young dancers and an expanded performance season. Ballet Des Moines exists to enrich lives in the greater Des Moines area by delivering excellence in the performing arts and striving to provide the highest level of dance education in the region.

OUR MISSION as a professional organization is to offer people of all ages an opportunity to experience world-class ballet.

BALLET DES MOINES (1ST COMPANY)

Under the Artistic Direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines launched its first resident, professional ballet company in 2012, offering additional training opportunities for young dancers and an expanded performance season. Ballet Des Moines exists to enrich lives in the greater Des Moines area by delivering excellence in the performing arts and striving to provide the highest level of dance education in the region.

Professional

  • Resident company
  • Professional artist

Apprentice

  • Dancer with potential and desire to move into a professional role.
  • Attends all company classes and rehearsals.

Professional Guest Artist

  • Guest artists perform with Ballet Des Moines by invitation only and at the discretion of the artistic director and ballet mistress.

BALLET DES MOINES II (2ND COMPANY)

Formed in the fall of 2009 under the artistic direction of Serkan Usta, Ballet Des Moines II is Ballet Des Moines’ corps of pre-professional dancers who represent the organization through community outreach events and public performances. All members of Ballet Des Moines II are ambassadors for the organization and are meant to be role models in the dance community.

The purpose of Ballet Des Moines II is to be a transitory experience for dancers considering pursuing a professional dance career. The experience not only gives the dancers a greater depth of training and diverse performance opportunities, but the tools and real world experiences that all professional dancers come to expect.

BDM II (Trainee) 

  • Dancer with the potential and desire to more seriously explore a future in dance.
  • Does not attend company classes during the day.

BDM II (Pre-professional)

  • Highly talented pre-professional dancer committed to supporting Ballet Des Moines.
  • Performs on a regular basis as part of the company.
